Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy
Deb was originally trained by Dr. Sue Johnson and has since completed advanced training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy.
EFCT is a structured approach to couples and family therapy which was developed in the early 80′s by Drs. Sue Johnson and Les Greenburg. Research conducted over the past 20 years validates that 90% of couples show significant improvements in their relationships with EFCT.
Deb believes EFCT is about reawakening our inborn need and desire for connection. Allowing ourselves to become more vulnerable opens the space to positive communication and interactions and provides us with the power to sculpt our intimate relationships into safe havens for ourselves and loved ones.
Distressed couples and families often include members suffering from disorders such as depression, anxiety, panic disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, dementia, and chronic illness among others.
Deb sometimes integrates EMDR with EFCT to facilitate healing for partners traumatized by betrayal in the intimacy of their relationship. Deb has experienced the power of EMDR to clear negative beliefs and emotions programmed by past experiences, and she believes this emotional clearing has helped some of her clients facilitate the emotional attunement fundamental to replacing negative cycles of interaction in intimate relationships, using positive bonding to begin the process of strengthening the relationship bond.
